Jonas Fensch aka 'Rubio', born in Berlin in 1979, is an artist whose roots go back to the graffiti scene of the early 90's and who is currently finding his expression in urban street art and illustration.
The bulky waste on the street and in the hallway is a gift for his work. In this way, a new canvas is quickly created from an old cupboard door, a mirror or a Euro pallet, freshly painted.
The impulse comes from the available materials: Don't just start painting when all the colors are on the shelf, but sometimes just let red and blue guide you in your own visual cosmos. Rather than creating a slick surface, 'Rubio' leaves traces of the production process, evoking a contrast to the flawless perfection of a canvas. By reusing different materials and substrates, a unique work of art is created to stay.
In this way, 'Rubio' reflects 'his' city and 'his' Berlin with his works. Sometimes it got completely out of control and was applied too thickly, sometimes he cut too many corners; the results inadequate, but puristic and sexy - typically Berlin. What was not wanted is now wanted, because only the sky is perfect, but art is always only a fraction looking for connection.
